Why old bikes
What if the best bike for most people isn't the newest one?
At Huon Bikes, I rebuild quality vintage bicycles because I genuinely believe there's value in simplicity.
A well built older bike can be:
No proprietary electronics. No pressure to constantly upgrade. No chasing the “latest and greatest”.
Frame up rebuild. Built for cruising, commuting and everything in between.
Just a solid bicycle that does what a bicycle is supposed to do: quietly improve your life.
What I do
A bicycle garage, not a showroom
Every part has its part to play. Bring in the bike you have, or come and see what is on the floor waiting for a new rider.
Service and repairs
Tune ups, brakes, gears, wheels, punctures and the jobs nobody else wants to look at. If it has two wheels, bring it in and we will sort it.
Bikes for sale
Second hand, pre loved, upcycled, rebuilt. Whatever you want to call it, there is usually something on the floor looking for its next rider.
Parts and accessories
Tyres and tubes in black, tan, white and red, chains, saddles, grips, cables, lights and lube. The consumables that keep a bike on the road.
Inside the shed

Bikes for sale
Second hand? Pre loved? Upcycled? Rebuilt?
Does it even matter. What matters is that it rolls properly, it stops properly, and the parts on it can still be bought in ten years.
There is usually a mix on the floor: rebuilt road bikes and cruisers, BMX, kids bikes, folding bikes and electric bikes. Stock changes constantly, so the honest answer to “what have you got?” is to give me a ring or call in.

“We camped at rivers edge camping on the weekend (35 mins from Huonville). Our 5yo son had a puncture on his bike. We googled bike shops in Huonville (at 2pm on a Saturday long weekend) with slim hopes, to our pleasant surprise we came across Huon bikes and had the pleasure of dealing with Damien who checked what he had and came through with the goods. Within 45 minutes, our friends who were heading down to the campground from Huonville arrived with a new tube and tire courtesy of Huon bikes.
